For our inaugural post on the Windward Goods blog, we wanted to share a bit about who we are, and discuss our objective as being one of the first California Benefit Corporations in the Cannabis Industry.
As cannabis consumers ourselves, we noticed that this rapidly growing industry is full of low-quality cannabis products that are grown, processed and ultimately manufactured using chemicals and GMO ingredients, things that we ourselves strive to avoid in our day to day lives. Our thinking behind launching Windward Goods was -- why shouldn't we, and thousands of other cannabis consumers like us, have better choices for sustainably produced cannabis products? The founders of Windward Goods came together with one goal in mind -- to provide cannabis and hemp consumers a high-quality, ethically produced and environmentally mindful product they can trust.
As a first step towards that goal, we have partnered with The Cannabis Conservancy (TCC) to help us source our materials from third party certified legal cannabis organizations that employ good agricultural practices, reject harmful chemical inputs, promote waste reduction methods, are energy efficient, and strive to conserve water.
As we intend to hold our suppliers to stringent social and environmental standards, it was obvious that we also needed to incorporate as a Benefit Corporation and adhere to our own third party standard. Although we currently cannot yet become a certified B Corp due to the federal status of cannabis, we used the third party Quick Impact Assessment from B Labs to analyze our environmental footprint and will strive to provide an ever increasing level of social, environmental and economic benefits for our communities.
